The FLAIRS Training Symposium has a reputation for providing relevant, timely and well prepared presentations for I&R leaders and practitioners.  With a “For the Love of I & R " theme and a great location just a short walk from Downtown Disney, the 2012 FLAIRS Training Symposium offers a top quality training opportunity and a great, well-deserved getaway!

The goal of the 2012 FLAIRS Training Symposium is to advance the professionalism of information and referral through training opportunities.  The proposals selected will provide solid skills training, offer reviews of best practices, and include a variety of topics to appeal to a diversity of I&R specialists.   Workshops should offer an entertaining, interactive and informative format.  Presenters may propose a 90-minute presentation or multi-session workshops in 90-minute blocks. Shorter subjects may be combined with related presentations.

We need presenters on best practices in every AIRS standard, new technology, workgroups around software, resource management, etc., and hot topics in each discipline.

If you have experiences and ideas to share with an intrepid I&R audience, please submit your proposal now.  WORKGROUPS to meet and discuss topics and best practice exchanges are welcome!  FLAIRS is looking for presentations in the following areas:

  •  AIRS Standards based Basic I&R competencies – A complete track that will include The ABC’s of I&R (following AIRS training manual), active listening skills, assessing caller needs, making appropriate referrals, and writing concise case notes.
     

  •  Hot topics – In addition to the core competencies, we’re looking for presentations in each I&R discipline that will augment the basic skills track in such areas as understanding the unique needs of children, elders and people with disabilities; and handling crisis and suicide calls as a non-crisis provider.
     

  •  Managers’ and supervisors’ track – Maintaining a quality program; measuring outcomes; securing community, corporate and grant funding; marketing your program; working with community leaders; team/morale building; recruiting and managing volunteers; managing stress; diversity appreciation and conflict resolution.
     

  • Meeting professional standards related to Data and records management, inclusion/exclusion policies, data updating strategies, indexing with the AIRS/Infoline Taxonomy, reporting.
     

  • Meeting the ‘disaster’ standards: AIRS Standard 22 – formalizing relationships with emergency managers and other community stakeholders; Standard 23 – keeping up with emerging post-disaster services; and Standard 25 – tracking service requests, identifying and reporting gaps, overlaps and unmet needs.
